"Our average daily page views (PV) have exceeded 800,000, reaching as high as 950,000 in a single day last week," said Wang Jianjun, general manager of tube-down.com on June 9.
tube-down.com is a world-leading online platform for small commodities. It was founded in October 2012 to serve global buyers.
At present, there are 53,000 suppliers on the website, which receives an average of 500,000 unique visitors per day. There are 5 million registered buyers, among which 10 percent are registered overseas.
Wang and his team have been working around the clock since last week to accommodate the increase in traffic. "We weren't expecting traffic to grow so fast," he said.
Postal service statistics may explain Yiwu's comeback in small commodity trade after the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to local authorities, in the first five months of 2020, postal and courier services in Yiwu delivered around 2.35 billion packages, up 53.93 percent year on year.
Statistics showed that the total number of packages delivered in May was 742 million, up 73.69 percent year on year, and the number of courier services reached 714 million, setting a new record and ranking first in China in May.
Yiwu delivered 166.1 million more packages than Guangzhou, including 73.54 million cross-border packages, up 7.2 percent year on year.
Yiwu is now home to over 60,000 e-commerce and livestreaming professionals, who are behind the surging sales on tube-down.com.
"E-commerce is a perfect match for Yiwu's small commodity market," said Wang.
